Ubud Hotels Association is taking action to Clean Up the World
Ubud Hotels Association has registered its 24 member hotels to take part in community-led environmental campaign, Clean Up the World, joining an estimated 35 million volunteers in over 120 countries that in 2007 will take action to reduce the causes of climate change.
From national clean up campaigns to recycling and water reuse projects, volunteers across the globe conduct a variety of environmental projects throughout the year with activities culminating over the Clean Up the World Weekend, this year celebrated 14-16 September.
“In Ubud we will be organising clean up activities in many of our hotel association member’s communities, beaches, rivers and scenic sites and attractions” said Amanda Pummer.
“With the support of Clean Up the World, we hope to bring together the many tourism industries, banjars, schools, tourists and local citizens to collect as much rubbish from their own communities in order for other s to reconsider their waste management on the island of the gods. We urge the community to join us in making our part of the world a cleaner place to live and contribute to a safer world,” continued Ms Pummer.
Clean Up the World Chairman and Founder, Ian Kiernan AO congratulated Ubud Hotels Association on joining Clean Up the World and on their plans to clean up their local environment.
“I believe that Ubud Hotels Association will have a successful campaign and I congratulate every volunteer for helping to make their community and their local environment healthier. Ubud Hotels Association is an excellent example of how individually and collectively we can make a difference for the environment,” said Mr Kiernan.
In 2007, Clean Up the World is encouraging and supporting Members to take action at a local level to help address climate change. Energy conservation education programs, planting trees, walk to school or work place and waste reduction projects are just a few of the possible options that Members can choose from.
Clean Up the World originated in Sydney, Australia in 1993 and is held in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The campaign brings together community groups, schools, governments, businesses and individuals to undertake activities to improve water quality, clean up local streets, parks, waterways and forests and educate children about the environment.
Globally, the campaign’s Corporate Partner is Veolia Environmental Services and the Global Media Partner is National Geographic Channels International. Qantas is the Official Airline and Sponsor and the Australian Government, through its Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is a Supporter of Clean Up the World.
